The form necessary to request a letter of recommendation from me is located at the TOP of this page.
  • Fill out the "Letter of Recommendation Request" form completely.
  1. Include as much detail as possible, focusing specifically on attributes or involvement that sets you apart from your peers.
  2. Spend some time filling out the form – you are asking someone to spend a significant amount of time writing a letter for you, please mirror that courtesy by providing sufficient information.
  • Hand the form to teacher/counselor/coach/Club Advisor when requesting a letter of recommendation.

  1. Choose carefully and wisely;
  2. This should be a person who knows you well and can speak to a number of your best qualities. It is appropriate to ask people such as teachers or counselors from a previous school and or past employers.
  3. Think about the school you are applying to, or scholarship you are applying for.
  4. Does this person know what I want to pursue after high school?
  5. Is this person in my intended field of study?
  6. What has this person seen me do outside of the classroom?
  • When requesting a letter of recommendation, it is considered proper etiquette to ask in person (as opposed to e-mail or leaving a voice message) Don't blindside your writer with requests for additional letters later on. Try to provide a full list of all programs to which you are applying.
  • Come prepared by having the “Request for Letter of Recommendation” form already completed.
  • Be specific with how you intend to use the letter.
  1. Applying to specific university (supply name).
  2. Applying to a number of different universities.
  3. Applying to a number of or specific scholarships.
  4. Applying for an apprenticeship.
  5. Applying for a job.
  • Give writer a specific due date for:
  1. When you would like to pick it up (no earlier than 2-3 weeks from request), or where it has to be mailed (supply address).
  • Plan well
  1. Allow a MINIMUM of 2 weeks lead time (not including intersessions).
  2. No letters will be written during school winter break;  please do not request during winter break.
  • Remember to put some thought into this!  Your letter of recommendation could be the one attribute that places you into the college of your choice and/or lands you that fabulous scholarship!

Click on RECOMMENDATION FORM at the top of the page to print a copy.

Note: If your college application or scholarship deadline is over one of our school breaks,  you must have your request in by:
