Unit 2B - Oral Career & Workplace Communication

Proper & Engaging Use of Language

Verbal

- Clear. Confident. Committed.

- Use Appropriate Vocabulary & Grammar

- No slang.

- No contractions.

- No curse words or borderline curse words.

- Knowing when to speak vs when to listen. (delicate balance)
***Consider the difference...in how you talk to different audiences.

- How you speak to Friends vs Family vs Co-Workers?

***Comport Yourself as a Professional***

- Act, dress, and conduct yourself for the job you want, not the one you currently have.

Non-Verbal

- What do your non-verbal signals "say" about what you are saying and thinking?

- You may be clouding your message... communicating or signaling something to your audience that you do not realize.

- It is easy as a listener to tell if the speaker firmly believes what they are saying.

- Facial expressions, body posture, and movements tell an audience large or small just how you are truly thinking or feeling.

- Shifting, slouching, eye rolling, lack of eye contact, arms crossed, even a flinch can tell you so much about the person you are speaking too.

- EVERYONE NEEDS A "BRAND" NOT JUST PRODUCTS
- WHAT DOES YOUR BRAND SAY
